THIS YEAR, STEP OUT OF DEFEAT INTO VICTORY

How are you stepping into 2018?

Are you excited about the potential of a fresh start?

My friend, if you feel trapped by what’s happened in your past, I want to tell you today that your past does not have to determine your future. In His Word, the Lord offers you the promise of a new beginning: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope’” (Jer. 29:11 NLT).

The Hebrew word for “hope” here also means “expectation.” Beloved, God wants you to look into your future, look into 2018, and have an expectation of good to come because that’s His plan for your life!

So stop believing that this year, you’re still going to face the same problems you always have. Start declaring, “The Lord has promised me a bright future. I receive all the good things He has planned for me. This will be my best year yet!”

As you fill your heart with His promises of grace and blessings found in His Word, you’ll find yourself leaving the past behind and stepping into the future He has for you!

Stronger Than Any Adversity

The Word of God tells us that the future God has planned for us is one filled with hope and promise (see Jer. 29:11). But that doesn’t mean that there will be no challenges in 2018.

The new year might have its difficulties, but take comfort in this: God’s grace is stronger than any adversity. His blessing is bigger than any setback. His supply is greater than any demand.

Jesus says in the Scriptures, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NIV). My friend, He who has overcome the world lives in you. You have His overcoming power inside of you!

So when you come face-to-face with difficulty, instead of looking outward at the challenge, look inward to Christ in you. You’ll find His strength that’s made perfect in your weakness. You’ll find His peace that cannot be shaken by any storm. You’ll find His more-than-enough grace to help in every moment of need.

Not by Your Strength but by His Spirit

Resolutions are easy to make but hard to keep. Have you ever made resolutions with every intention of keeping them, only to find yourself giving up after just a few weeks?

While some of us might be able to stick to our goals, most of us experience lapses in our resolve and end up feeling stressed out by the pressure to achieve what we want. That makes it difficult to enjoy the journey!

My friend, there’s a better way to see the changes in your life you’re hoping for. I want to tell you that there’s something stronger than your determination. It is the power of God’s grace. What you cannot do by your own perseverance, God’s Spirit of grace can.

His Spirit can give you strength when you’re weak. His Spirit can open doors for you that you can’t open on your own. His Spirit can lead you right smack into right-place-right-time blessings.

When the turnarounds you hope to see in your life don’t depend on you but on the Lord, you can enjoy 2018 with Him without stress. Instead of trusting in your own resolutions, put your trust in His resolution to love and to bless you!

So you don’t have to try to convince the Spirit to lead and guide you. That’s exactly what He wants to do.

In fact, He wants to teach you all things (see John 14:26)! All means all. He wants to teach you how to parent. How to manage your finances. How to prosper in your work. He is your very present help.

So how do you flow with the Spirit? Simply involve Him in your daily walk. Share your difficulties and challenges with Him, and ask Him to teach you day by day, situation by situation.

He’s only a whisper away.

Ever wish you knew how to make better decisions?

My friend, if you’ve made choices you wish you could go back on, I want to encourage you in this: It’s never too late to let the Lord teach you how to make great decisions.

The Bible tells us that the key ingredient for great decisions is the peace of God.

You see, the peace of God isn’t just the feeling of calmness. It’s the means by which the Holy Spirit guides us in making the best choices. Colossians 3:15 encourages us to “let the peace of God rule in [our] hearts.” The word “rule” in Greek is brabeuo, which means “to decide.” Today, the Holy Spirit helps us decide what to do and how to respond to specific situations with peace—whether it’s the presence or absence of it.

My friend, when you make decisions, you don’t have to depend on your own savvy. You can depend on the Spirit. The next time you have to make an important business decision or take a big financial step, let the Spirit lead you. Pause, take a step back, and listen.

Do you know of people who—for some reason—always have good things happening to them? It’s as if there’s just something about them that attracts good fortune. Something that gets them opportunities that other people don’t get.

The world calls this something “luck.” But you have Someone better than luck.

You have the Holy Spirit, who can lead you to the right place at the right time. We see Him in action in Genesis 24, when Abraham’s servant was tasked to find a wife for Abraham’s son Isaac. On his journey, Abraham’s servant prayed this prayer: “O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day…” (see Gen. 24:12). The word “success” in Hebrew is qarah, which means “right happening.” Before he even finished praying, the Holy Spirit caused Rebekah, Isaac’s beautiful wife-to-be, to cross his path!

Today, the Spirit can cause you to walk right into the right happenings you’re hoping for too. While luck is fickle and fleeting, the Spirit is dependable, consistent, and ever-present. And He loves you. So will you start your day with the same prayer that Abraham’s servant prayed? You have Someone better than luck looking out for you!
